Recently, a home once owned by former Beatle John Lennon and his wife Yoko Ono went up for sale. The famous couple was known for their peace activism and life in New York City. However, the newly listed property is not in New York—John Lennon’s former Palm Beach home is on the market.
John Lennon and Palm Beach
According to reports, John Lennon visited Palm Beach in 1974, and he and Yoko Ono may have rented the estate that is now up for sale for a month in late 1979. By many accounts, Lennon enjoyed The Town of Palm Beach and shared memorable exchanges with several community members during his time there. He also seemed to feel connected to and calmed by the environment. It’s reported that after renting the estate, he and Ono sent scouts to view area properties who would keep their names anonymous. During that time, their presence drew considerable attention, and both were well-known in the media. They feared that if they were to appear at a home in person, the seller would increase the price. The couple would have their employees send polaroid pictures of the properties for them to review. The two purchased the estate in January of 1980 with plans to conduct extensive renovations. Neither had an opportunity to return to Palm Beach to see their new home before John’s untimely death on December 8, 1980.
El Solano
The estate, known as “El Solano” is a 14,000 square foot, seven-room home, with an oceanfront dining room, and library. The mansion sits on 1.3 acres and has a tennis court, two pools, and 180 feet of ocean frontage. The property has undergone several renovations over the years since its original design by famed Palm Beach architect Addison Mizner. However, it has retained some of the period’s unique character and Mizner’s signature details such as hand-stenciled ceiling and coquina stone accents.
El Solano is also situated near some famous neighbors. President Trump’s “Winter Whitehouse” Mar-a-Lago is close to the home. Noted best-selling author James Patterson lives next to the property, and legendary rock and roll musician Rod Stewart is also a close neighbor. The current listing for the stunning and historically significant property is $47.5 million.
